Fishing Birthday Party Ideas

This past week Wheels turned 7, and he had a pool party at Honey's! When I asked him what kind of party he wanted, there was no hesitation... fishing. So, let's talk about some super cute fishing birthday party ideas.

We don't have a boat, vacation house, or pond, but Wheels loves to fish! It's something we wish we could take him to do more, but it just doesn't always fit in. When he said he wanted a fishing birthday party, I was excited to make it happen.

Fishing Birthday Party Ideas

We live in south Alabama, so when you throw a summer birthday party you plan it indoors or with water! Fortunately, Honey has a pool, and that goes well with a fishing theme!

Cake

The cake is the centerpiece of the party, and we always go all out. Our go-to "cake lady" is Tara at Tara's Temptations. She truly makes amazing cakes, and we do our best to book her as early as possible because she books fast!

Food

I decided on a menu for the party, trying to keep it easy on myself too! Then I found food label cards on Etsy that were editable. There are some options where you can write in the words, but I really liked the option of editing it before printing!

Some of the food items, I had a difficult time relating to fishing... like bananas. I decided they were "boats" and the kids got a kick out of it!

You'll notice a "Gone Fishing" sign in the picture. I found two boards my husband had around his shed, glued them together with wood glue, and painted it myself! Total cost = $0.00!

Decorations

I kept decorations pretty simple since the party wasn't confined to one area. There was an entire house plus backyard to decorate if I was going to go all out!

I purchased a decorative fishing net off of Amazon, then I used nails to hang it on a wall outside and stuffed balloons inside. This made a fun backdrop.

I also purchased white paper lanterns and painted the bottom half of them red, so they looked like bobbers. These hung on the net that held the balloons. I purchased 6" lanterns, but they come in all sizes.

Party Favors

This was probably my favorite special touch at the party; I was really proud of these! The kids really liked them too.

I bought bamboo garden sticks. You know, the ones that are used to hold up plants in a garden. Then, I used fishing line to attach the goody bags. So, they looked like fishing poles!!

Using a decorative container we had at home, I purchased a styrofoam ball used for flower arrangements and stuck the end of the poles in there to hold them up.

Throwing A Super Fun Fishing Birthday Party

We had such a great time at Wheels' party! If you're interested to see how it went, here's a video on YouTube.

There's so much more that can be done for a fishing birthday party, Wheels tried to talk me into having the small fish bowl ping pong ball game and let all his friends "win" a goldfish to take home! I felt certain I'd have some parents upset with me, so I didn't set that up... but it was a cute idea!

I'd love to hear how your fishing birthday party went or what ideas you have for it! As always, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out!
