My 2021 Word Of The Year

How are you guys?! Happy 2021. I hope you all had a terrific Christmas and New Year with your families. So, last year I came up with my word of the year: Consistent. You can read why I chose consistent as my word, and even find helpful tips on how to choose a word of the year for yourself here. Now it's time to choose a word of the year for 2021... and I've found my word.

Last Year's Word

Last year, my word of the year was consistent. Little did I know, it would take me the entire year to fully grasp this word. Sure, I thought I would be consistent with my efforts among other things, like eating healthy. But, I didn't realize how deeply this word word affect me.

Over 2020, I learned the importance of consistency within my actions, attitudes, and beliefs. You see, it's not that I don't know who I am, but I sometimes have a hard time letting that shine through. I listen to other's advice, my anxiety kicks in, then I doubt myself. But, 2020 taught me to stay consistent to me.

Last year was my first year picking a word of the year. I soul searched, researched, and planned before I found my perfect word for the year. This year, it happened a little differently for me... no soul searching required. And you know what? That's perfectly fine. Our inspiration can come in many forms, and my 2021 word of the year was on the tip of my tongue.

My 2021 Word of the Year

So... get on with it... I know, I know. What's my 2021 word of the year?

Breathe.

Why?

Mom of WAR- Breathe image

I guess it started when my husband gave me a cuff bracelet for Christmas. It has Morse code on it, and on the inside of the bracelet it reads "LET THAT SHIT GO."

Find my bracelet here.

Simple, funny... and it really hit home for me! Ahh... he knows me so well. Every time I put the bracelet on, I remind myself to... breathe.

I tend to let anxiety do my thinking for me. Sometimes I start with one anxious thought, and it turns into an entire ordeal where unnecessary emotions are controlling my thoughts and sometimes actions.

Breathe.

Are you a mom with anxiety, too? Here's an article I wrote about parenting with anxiety.

Slight deviations in my plan, even when they are completely inconsequential, have the tendency to bring up frustration and anxiety for me.

Breathe.

There are times my husband and I make a decision for our family, but I worry it will offend my extended family or friends. I feel like it's my responsibility to keep the peace on all fronts.

Breathe.

So, really, as it came time for me to choose my 2021 word of the year it was obvious. I've found it's much easier to stay consistent to me, when I settle my thoughts and breathe.

In 2021, I want to continue to grow in myself, as a wife, and as a mother. In 2021 I'm going to

Breathe.

... and let that shit go!
